Cynthia Dyvaughan Norris was born May 12, 1955, in Huntsville, AL. The second of four children, she was born to the Jimmie Lee Norris and Nancy Norris. She received Christ at an early age at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, she along with her brothers and sister served as ushers. In 1976, Cynthia became a member of Second Baptist Church in Starkville, MS. She was a member of the Adult Choir. Cynthia graduated from Starkville High School in 1974. After graduation, she attended Alcorn University and later transferred to East Mississippi Community College (EMCC) in Scooba, MS, where she pursued her passion in Funeral Service Technology. Throughout her career, she shared her gift of mortician and funeral director at various funeral homes throughout the state of Mississippi: Mississippi Funeral Service in Starkville, MS, Cockrell Funeral Home in Macon, MS, Century Funeral Home in Starkville, MS, Lee-Sykes Funeral Homes in Columbus and Macon, MS, Redmond Funeral Homes in Greenville, MS, Serenity Funeral Homes in Pontotoc, MS, Carter Funeral Homes in West Point, MS, E.E. McDonald Funeral Homes in Meridian and Dekalb, MS, and Hairston and Hairston Funeral Homes, just to name a few. She served on the East Mississippi Community College (EMCC) funeral service technology advisory board for 18 years. She was a charter member of Sigma Phi Sigma Fraternity (Mortuary Science Fraternity). One of her favorite things to do was coordinating judging of the restorative arts competition. In her role as preceptor at EMCC, she mentored students that now have successful careers far and wide. Cynthia enjoyed shopping and spending time with family. She was a member of the Lone Star Chapter #408 (Order of Eastern Star) and Lone Star Court #720 (Heroine of Jericho). She was preceded in death by her father, Jimmie Norris; brother, Julius Norris; grandmothers, Emma Norris and Lue Ella Malone; and grandfathers, John Norris and Aaron Malone. She leaves to cherish her memories: her beautiful mother, Mrs. Nancy Norris; siblings, James (Shellie) Norris of New Orleans, LA, Denise Inge, Kefauver (Jackie) Norris, and Jimmie (Gloria) Norris of Starkville, MS, and Sullivan Norris of California; one aunt, Maggie Peters; two uncles, William (Geraldine) Malone and Walter (Annie) Malone; and host of nieces, nephews, other family, and a world full of friends too.
