Vincent L. Jones

The Legacy “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7 A beloved father, brother and friend, Vincent Lamar Jones was born to the late William and Mary Jones on August 12, 1960 in Columbus, MS. He graduated from Caldwell High School in 1978 and went on to further his education at Mississippi State University in Starkville, MS. Vincent proudly served in the United States Air Force until his honorable discharge in November of 1985. He accepted God into his life at an early age by being baptized at Stephen Chapel M.B. church where he remained a member until his transition. The Omega Man “The man is a success who has lived well, loved much, and laughed often.” — Robert Louis Stevenson Vincent was a proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. He was initiated into ETA XI Chapter during the Spring of 1979. Vincent was dedicated to the Omega cardinal principles of manhood, scholarship, perseverance and uplift. He was definitely his brothers’ keeper as evidenced by the strong relationship he cultivated with his fraternity brothers. You almost always could find him sporting the “Purple and Gold” while enjoying various sports; finding joy in the competition and camaraderie they brought. He also loved to study and debate politics. The Family Man “Evidence of a life well lived is found in those who love you.” When he wasn’t engaged in some type of sporting event, Vincent was spending time with his family in which he loved dearly. He was dedicated to his family and ensured they all felt the love he held dear in his heart for each of them. Vincent had a way of making everyone feel special and loved no matter if you were in his presence or not. He leaves to cherish his memories a loving daughter, Aisha Jones (Jacksonville, Florida) his grandchildren, Preston, Presley and Phoenix, his siblings William Jones (Tina) of Columbus, MS, Michael Jones (Cynthia) of Powder Springs, Ga, Betty Vonsee (Paul) of Columbus MS, Tonya Turner of Columbus, MS, a very special sister-in-law Ruthy Jones of Jackson, MS and a host of nieces and nephews. Vincent also had a great number of close friends that he considered family. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Jones as well as his brothers Bobby Lee and Raeburn Van Jones. Vincent Lamar Jones departed this life on January 3, 2024. He will be remembered for his love and dedication to his family and fraternity, his service to his country, and his passion for sports. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
