Peggy Ann Johnson March

Peggy Ann Johnson March, 70, passed away on Friday, May 5, 2023, at UMC in Lexington, MS. Peggy Ann Johnson March was born September 11,1952, in Holmes County, Lexington, MS. She was the third child of nine children born to the parents of Leroy B. and Jeanette P. Johnson. Peggy joined St. John CME Church at an early age under the leadership of the late Rev. John Johnson, her grandfather. Peggy attended Lexington Attendance Center and furthered her education at Alcorn University. Peggy was united in Holy Matrimony to Sheriff Willie March on June 3, 1979. Willie was the Sheriff of Holmes County, but, Peggy was the Sheriff in their loving home. Peggy's two most favorite things in the world to do were to shop and to travel. Peggy's shopping was never just for her; she loved shopping so much, she put her love of shopping into her career, which was in the Retail Management field, for over thirty plus years. Peggy loved to travel, and Oklahoma was her most visited state. She loved traveling with her husband to the various Sheriff conventions. She looked forward to always being there while he was in class, so that she could shop all day! Peggy had a way with all kids even when she spent time substitute teaching. All she had to do was look at a student and it was known that he or she would snap in order. Monique Johnson, her niece, basically, lived in their home. Peggy spoiled her absolutely rotten which Monique will tell you herself! Peggy was working on Houston Johnson, Monique's baby, to have him just as spoiled! Peggy is proceeded in death by her maternal grandparents, Jack and Millie Pernell and her paternal grandparents, Rev. TJ and Hattie Johnson; her father, Leroy Johnson; and two brothers, Stanley and Kenneth Johnson. Peggy leaves to cherish her memory, a devoted husband, Willie March; loving mother, Jeanette P. Johnson; siblings: Leroy Johnson (O'nece) of Lexington, MS, Dwight Johnson (Charlene) of Milwaukee, WI, Donnie Johnson of Oklahoma, Evely Ousby (James) of Jackson, MS, Deborah Clark (Leonard) of Tulsa, OK, Veronica Smith of Broken Arrow, OK, and Pamela Johnson of Houston, TX; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, her beloved nieces, nephews, grands nieces, grand nephews, other relatives and friends. Peggy was the Mama of all the kids! Everyone of Peggy's siblings' children and their children belonged to Peggy! Visitation will be Thursday from 11:00 am until 6:00 pm at Hairston & Hairston Funeral Home in Lexington, MS. Funeral Service will be Friday at 10:30am at Guiding Light COGIC, 302 Mulberry St., Lexington, MS. Interment in Greenlawn Cemetery, 761 Arenia C. Mallory Rd., Lexington, MS.
