Lou Doris Spencer

Lou Doris Spencer was born April 2, 1945 in Starkville MS. The first of six children. She was born to the late Sam Harris and Lueatha Sykes Harris. Lou Doris received Christ at an early age at Morning Star M.B. Church in Starkville, MS. Her faith, trust in God, and service was a source of her strength throughout her life. She was a devoted member of the Sunday School and the Junior Choir. Lou Doris graduated from W.C. Henderson High School in 1964. She married Wilber Rice and moved to Detroit, Michigan. After relocating, she pursued a career as a ward clerk for over 40 years at Providence Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. She received various awards for her dedication and service. Lou Doris retired from Providence Hospital in 2007. She married the late Sammie Spencer, her high school sweetheart and loving husband, and moved to Moss Point, MS, in 2010. Lou Doris was an absolutely phenomenal and amazingly strong woman. She had a sweet spirit and a powerful presence. She was passionate about her family and all those who were entrusted in her care. She will be greatly missed, but her spirit, passion, and presence will live on! Lou Doris departed this life on Thursday, February 23, 2023, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, MS, at 5:40 p.m. Lou Doris was preceded in death by her parents: Sam Harris and Lueatha Sykes Harris; former husbands: Sammie Spencer and Wilber Rice; and a Niece: Breanna Hampton. Lou Doris leaves to cherish her precious memories, her daughter: Lillian Rice of Detroit, MI; three grandchildren: Won Franchez Rice, Sr. of Sacramento, CA, Leon Larde, Jr., and Dalynngia Unique Fuqua of Detroit, MI; fourteen great grandchildren: Jordan Rice of Detroit, MI, Erin Rice of NC, Jade Rice, Nevaeh Rice, Zion Rice, Jadora Rice of Detroit, MI, Won Rice, Jr. of Oakland, CA, Liv Fuqua, Zoe Fugua, Eva Fuqua, Brian Fuqua, Aly Fuqua, Brilynn Fuqua, and Malani Larde of Detroit MI; two sisters: Janice (Robert) Stevenson of St. Louis, MO, Linda Pastchal of Starkville, MS; three brothers; Rev. Rufus Harris, Sr., Melvin (Dianne) Harris, Jim (Dorothy) Hampton, Jr. all of Starkville, MS; seven nieces; Lendy Harris, Rochelle Harris, Andrea Denise (Charles) Pearson of Chicago, IL, Ketrina (Andre) Moore of St. Louis, MO, Andrea (Clinton) Pastchal-Smith, Rokeia Harris, Alexis (Demorial) Logan, Breanna Hampton (deceased), and Lashay Evans all of Starkville, MS; three nephews, Christopher (Patricia) Stevenson of Philadelphia, PA, Rondeze Harris of Okolona, MS, and Rufus Harris Jr. of Newport News, VA; three aunts: Alberta Jay, Isabella Wright, and Bernice Sykes of Maywood, IL; and a special son: Eddie (Shonda) Deloach of Starkville, MS, and a host of cousins, friends, and neighbors.
