John Wesley Howard

SSG (Ret.) John Wesley Howard was born January 29, 1955, in Sulligent, Alabama to the late Robert and Milie Howard Johnson. He received Christ at an early age at Saint James Baptist Church. John graduated from Sulligent High School, LA in 1974, where he played varsity basketball. He was formerly employed by Dyncorp International receiving Crew Chief of the Year for 14th Flying Training Wing T-37 Flight in 1993. He served 26 years in the military: Navy (3), Navy Reserve (3) and 877th Engineering Battalion of Alabama National Guard (20) as a Quarrying Specialist. During his military career, he received numerous awards to include Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal for his service in Operation Iraqi Freedom, Army Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Components Reserve Medal (4th Award), National Defense Service Medal (2nd Award), Noncommissioned Officer's Professional Development Ribbon, and an Army Service Ribbon. He was an avid golfer, who enjoyed watching golf, as well as studying the sport. He also enjoyed fishing. He loved caps of al kinds, especially his military themed caps in which he was a proud soldier. John was very knowledgeable and loved giving advice. He loved his family and truly loved his nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his father, Robert Johnson, and mother, Millie Howard Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters: Flonnie Hackman, Magella Johnson, Faye Pennington, Frances Hawthorne; and brothers: Hobart Goode Jr, Troy L. Goode, George Goode, and Dallas Goode. John leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife of 37 years, Gloria Morris Howard; his loving nephew/son, Kyler Moore and a special nephew, Dylan Gardner; a grandniece who is more like a granddaughter, Kyleigh Laine Moore, who he affectionally loved; his three brothers: William Johnson, Gregory (Jean) Johnson, and Robert (Christy) Johnson all of Sulligent, AL; his mother-in-law, Sarah Edna Morris; godchildren: Sarah Ashley King and Joshua Keyes; four brothers-in-law: Johnnie (Faye) Morris, Craig (Daphnee) Morris, Sammie (NaTasha) Morris, and Sidney (Veronica) Morris; three sisters-in-law: Barbara Brandon, Charlene Gardner, and Brenda Martin; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and a host of other relatives and friends.
